Movies which fit this criteria include
Cabin In The Woods
Friday The 13th (2009)
Wrong Turn
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Halloween (2007)
Freddy vs Jason
I took parts from The Cabin In The Woods and changed the formula. For example I took the self awareness of the genre and I made it my own because I didn't want to take the movie seriously.
I also took the Wrong Turn direction and location because in most horror films the men will save the weak woman. In this the roles are swapped. Its kind of new and good to see women painted in a positive light. In my movie a disabled person is the hero and I hope i start a new wave of horror heroes.
I took the grit of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to make my film uneasy to watch and included more raw footage that someone found in the police station. I am a late bloomer when it comes to horror movies. When I saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) I liked it. I liked the unecessary gore. I liked the actors(surprising for a remake) and I liked how they retold the story for a new generation with another movie on the way. This franchise is getting bigger and bigger and I am strapped in for a ride to Texas
Friday the 13th (2009) inspired my main character. The way in which I kill people is similar to the way the lead character, Jason kills people. I had to tame down the violence in my movie because of this was a college movie trailer I didn't want to be in trouble. With my disability its kind of new to see. Friday the 13th (2009) is a surprise in my case because I have to really write movies involving people camping out, but this movie does so well I forget its a remake.
I'm a big fan of Halloween and Michael Myers is a big influence on my main character Graham Smyth. I didn't explore in the trailer, but Graham has post traumatic stress after the zombie outbreak. He believes that everyone except for his three friends are zombies, including his family who he has already killed. I am paying homage to Michael Myers backstory and adding something else to it. Halloween is one of the movies I keep coming back to for good scares and storytelling. Michael Myers will go down in history with the wolfman, Dracula and old horror movies. Michael Myers is iconic!
In Freddy vs Jason I build up this movie through the Dean Kyle show. I give the avengers treatment because this movie has been in the works for ten years. I am building up a Michael Myers vs Graham Smyth movie. This is the iron man of the saga. This is the first movie of the series. Freddy vs Jason inspired this movie because when Jason goes to hell the movie ends you see Freddy's glove pull Jason's mask. This was the first horror movie I ever saw. Freddy Krueger made me fall in love with creating movies with the back story and everything to do with Freddy.
